Todd Akin

By a voice vote at a reorganization meeting of the 8th Congressional District Republicans Tuesday, attendees voted to support the results of the U.S. Senate GOP race in the state.

Rep. Todd Akin has been under fire to withdraw from the race after controversial comments he made about rape. Sen. Roy Blunt, former Sens. Kit Bond, John Danforth and John Ashcroft have called on him to withdraw from their party’s race. The Democrat is Claire McCaskill, the incumbent.

Pamela K. Grow, M.D., 120the Legislative District chair, said 69 of 110 possible voters attended the meeting.

The resolution declared support for Akin, who members said was the rightful candidate for the office after his nomination in August and Republican voters don’t want “forces outside of the state of Missouri to dictate the choice of Republican U.S. Senate candidate.”
