A Houston man’s truck caught on fire Monday morning after he drove too close to a burning brush pile in his yard.

Authorities said Herbert Douglas, of 1080 N. Industrial Drive, was maneuvering his vehicle in his front lawn when it became stuck next to the brush pile. The front of the vehicle was fully engulfed when authorities arrived.

Houston Police Chief Jim McNiell used Douglas’ garden hose to keep the fire away from the gas tank until two City of Houston fire trucks arrived. They quickly extinguished the blaze.

Douglas’ property is next to Houston House.
