Game notes for Saturday’s football game between Houston and Salem.

WEATHER: Saturday, isolated thunderstorms with highs near 89. There is a 30 percent chance of rain. Saturday night, mostly cloudy with a low of 65 and 10 percent chance of rain.

TIGER TIDBITS: Houston is opening the season against an opponent other than Cabool for the first time since 2007. The Tigers travelled to Marionville that year as the final game in a home-and-home series. …Junior Devin Coulter, who hasn’t played organized football at any level in school, will start at tight end and cornerback in his first season. …Houston will debut a new helmet this year. The new look is a bright red helmet with white ‘H’ on the side. …Houston’s last victory was a 28-6 win against Cuba to conclude the 2009 season.

LATE ADDITIONS: A pair of freshman joined the football team on Monday. Austin Diedrich (far left) is a running back and defensive back. Dallas Neal (right) is an offensive and defensive lineman.

ABOUT SALEM: The Tigers return seven starters –– four offensive and three defensive –– from last year’s team that went 5-5 and 4-3 in the SCA. …Salem scored seven touchdowns in last week’s jamboree while allowing three. The opponents were Pacific, Sullivan and St. James. …Salem coach Bill Schuchardt is entering his 31st season as the Tigers’ head coach. He is coaching football only after retiring last school year from his duties as a teacher, athletic director and track coach. …Schuchardt told the Salem News he has made no decisions about retiring. He said he has a one-year contract like all coaches in the district. …There will be a football parade at 6 p.m. Saturday in Salem.
