James Elmer Coffey, 78, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in Springfield.
He was born June 12, 1934, in Success, son of Leaborn and Leona Richardson Coffey.
He worked for AAFES in Fort Leonard Wood and retired at age 48. He spent the remainder of his life farming, hunting and fishing. One of his greatest passions was going to sales and buying many things he intended to fix, use or sell. He loved meeting people there.
He was a member of Success Baptist Church. He gave to Gideon’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, June of the home; a son, Larry Coffey of Mountain Grove; a daughter, Sandra Tabor of Success; two stepsons, Pete Armistead of Dixon and Richard Armistead of Columbia; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Success Baptist Church with Pastor Ted Moore officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
