Members of the Texas County Mission Team paint a house last week in Texas County.

Teenagers from five area communities teamed up last week to complete projects for elderly and low-income families.

Under the direction of Paul Posey, the Texas County Mission Team comprised of 90 middle and high school students and 13 leaders divided into groups to improve homes of county residents. Posey, who is the director of missions for the Texas County Baptist Association, said teams worked primarily on homes belonging to the elderly or low-income families that cannot complete the project without help.

In the words of a crew manager, their mission is to “provide a public service and spread God’s love.”

Six churches from five local communities are involved in the weeklong missions action camp. They completed 21 projects this year — 10 being homes. Other projects included the American Legion Hall of Licking and five senior housing units in Summersville.

The teams work on a variety of tasks, including painting, landscaping and power washing.

The Texas County camp is based off a similar camp in Tipton that has been in operation for seven years. Posey, who helped develop that camp, said he hopes to continue the Texas County one next year.
