William R. Wood

The suspect in a Aug. 1 shooting incident in the Texas County community of Tyrone will have to wait a while for his case to be heard in court.

The preliminary hearing for Elk Creek resident William R. Wood, 36, was initially scheduled for last Friday in Texas County Associate Court, but has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 17.

Wood was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 59-year-old Tyrone resident Craig Valle after an early-morning shooting that took place at Wood’s Carter Lane home. Valle was flown from the scene to a Springfield hospital and died two days later.

Wood, who represented by a public defender, is being held at the Missouri Department of Corrections facility at Fulton, where he was sent for probation violation after the crime.
