Ruth Eleanor Barnhurst, 82, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at her home in Elk Creek.
She was born May 8, 1930, in Clarks Summit, Pa., daughter of Charles H. and Ruth Sicker Holmes. She and William H. Barnhurst were married Nov. 23, 1946, in Mount Holly, N.J.
The Barnhursts moved to the Elk Creek area in November 1971. She was a member of the Houston Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Kabul Nursing Home and later provided elderly home healthcare.
She enjoyed frequenting yard sales, swimming and harvesting black walnuts from her farm. She loved Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David and Robert Holmes; a sister, Ethel Matthews; her husband, William; and a son, William Barnhurst, Jr.
Survivors include four children, Hope Ruth Gipe of Cascade, Md., Robert Barnhurst of Berrien Springs, Mich., Richard Barnhurst of Plymouth, Minn., and Dale Barnhurst of Collinsville, Ill.; a sister, Irene Reed of Virginia; a brother, Charles Holmes of N.J.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. until noon Friday, Aug. 24, at Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time. The body was cremated under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
