Sales tax revenue was down in Houston during the latest monthly distribution.

Sales taxes collected by Houston merchants were down about 2 percent from the same monthly period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The total from a one-cent sales tax totaled $44,831, which was down $888 from the same month a year ago. For the year, $374,756 has been collected. That’s nearly unchanged from last year — up $244. Two quarter-cent sales taxes earmarked for streets, sidewalks and utility work totaled $10,909, which is down about $300 on each from the same period a year ago.

An eighth-cent sales tax netted $5,455 for debt repayment on a fire truck.
