Carlos A. “Sonny” Ballard Jr., 71, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, in Mt. Carmel West, Ohio.

He was born April 2, 1941, son of Carlos Sr. and Anna Belle Ballard.

A former Houston resident, he was a veteran of the Navy. He was a past member of VFW Post 1598, the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He loved to play the guitar and banjo. He enjoyed fixing things.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bessie; and a brother, Danny.

Survivors include five children, Dale, Kenneth, Carla Dillon, Sonya Moore and Carline Dunlap; his first wife, Doris Ballard; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Betty, Carol, Marilyn, Nancy and Sally; a brother, Ted; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Cook & Son – Pallay Funeral Home in Columbus, Ohio. Burial was in Grove City Cemetery.
