Lt. Melissa Dunn of the Texas County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday every inmate from the sweep appeared Tuesday in circuit court via video. Judge John Wiggins presided while filling in for Judge Mary Sheffield.
Dunn said multiple attorneys applied for reduced bonds for their clients, and 21 inmates posted bond. Wiggins set a return court date of Nov. 6.
Authorities arrested 40 persons on the first day in the biggest one-day roundup in county history and first in more than three decades. The county’s last drug sweep was conducted June 13, 1991, and resulted in 39 arrests under Sheriff John Vandiver.
