Texas County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting Sept. 18.

Texas County Farm Bureau will host its annual meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce community building on North U.S. 63.

The organization was formed 42 years ago. Two board members have been involved since its inception: Dr. I.C. Keeney and Richard Best. Both will be honored.

Former Farm Bureau President Charles Kruse is the speaker. He retired after 18 years.

All Farm Bureau members are invited — with a special emphasis for past presidents or board members. Steak will be served. Attendees are asked to bring a dish and their own table service. Those attending should complete their member questionnaire included in the organization’s magazine. Of those received, a drawing will be held for a membership. An auction also is planned to raise monies for a scholarship awarded each year.

The county Farm Bureau was represented at a candidates’ session in Jefferson City. U.S. Senate candidates Todd Akin and Claire McCaskill spoke. Gov. Jay Nixon and his challenger, Dave Spence, also made presentations.

A program on speaking to the media about farming also was presented. A panel of six from 17 attending participated.
