The Houston High School volleyball team beat Licking 25-20, 25-20 Monday night inside Hiett Gymnasium to avenge a loss from the season opener.
Alexa Ichord and Kylee Elmore led the Lady Tigers (2-6) with five kills apiece. Ichord and Sarah Garrett had three blocks. Senior Amber Sillyman handed out a team-best eight assists.
The victory snapped a string of five straight losses for the team, which went 0-4 Saturday at the Branson Tournament.
“It was a fantastic game of hustle, and we had the will to finish the game,” said HHS coach Skye Carrasquillo. “I was proud of how they played as a team. All five girls went and slapped hands if someone made a mistake. They were able to forget about the mistake and go up to the next ball and focus.”
Desiree Venable led HHS with eight digs. Sydney Cremer had two aces.
On Saturday, the Lady Tigers lost all four of their matches in Branson. They were defeated by Fair Grove (25-21, 25-18), Reeds Spring (25-13, 26-24), Heritage (25-17, 25-20) and Camdenton (no score available).
