The Houston High School softball can’t solve Salem.
The Lady Tigers are 0-2 against Salem after losing 14-5 on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Houston (4-2) is undefeated against the rest of the teams on its schedule. Salem previously defeated HHS 8-6 in the season-opening Houston Invitational.
The Lady Tigers had a 3-2 second-inning lead in the lastest matchup. But Salem scored multiple times in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings en route to a lopsided victory.
Taylor Franklin, Kayla Kelley and Hailey Dodson had one hit apiece for Houston, which was out-hit 13-3.
Kelley struck out two batters in the complete-game loss.
Freshman Autumn Walker was hit by a pitch leading off the game and eventually scored.
With Houston trailing 2-1, Kaylea Preheim walked with one out in the second and scored on Dodson’s RBI double. Dodson also scored in the inning to give the Lady Tigers a 3-2 lead.
Salem’s 14 runs were just one less than Houston allowed to its previous five opponents combined.
