Vaughn Eugene Dablemont

Vaughn Eugene Dablemont, 83, most recently of Rogers, Ark., and Kenai, Alaska, passed away Aug. 29, 2012, at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark..

Vaughn was born June 11, 1929 in Houston, Mo., to Fred and Tollie Dablemont. He married Elinor Louise Arthur on Dec. 26, 1952, in Bucyrus, Mo. Vaughn was an Alaska resident for 46 years, living in the Anchorage, Kenai and Fairbanks areas. After retiring, Vaughn maintained his Alaska residency and snow-birded to Rogers, Ark., for the winters.

Vaughn was a caring and dedicated family man. He was active with his kids, growing up as a Boy Scout Leader and Little League president and passed on his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, western films and card games.

Vaughn served in the Army as a Combat Medic during the Korean War; spent many years doing body and fender work and painting cars; and was the owner of Vaughn’s Mini Mart in Soldotna, Alaska.

He was very active in the American Legion Department of Arkansas at the Rogers Post, performing as a member of the honor team at military funerals and serving in nearly every officer position including Post Commander, District Commander and Area Vice-Commander. He also volunteered over 2000 hours at the Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks.

Survivors include sons, Alan Dablemont of Anchorage, Alaska, and Michael Dablemont of Rogers, Ark.; a daughter, Rita J. Valentine of North Pole, Alaska; brothers, Norten Dablemont of Bolivar, Mo., and Bryce Dablemont of Springdale, Ark.; a sister, Amanda (Zodie) Owens of Bentonville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Dablemont; a son, Don Dablemont; and a brother, Farrell Dablemont.

Funeral services are 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Ark. Vaughn’s brother-in-law, Leonard Ballard, will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Fayetteville National Cemetery at 2 p.m. A visitation will be held prior from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
