The Houston City Council authorized a Rolla engineering firm to begin work to capture grant funding to make infrastructural improvements.
Rob Conaway of Archer Engineering discussed projects to make sidewalk improvements from West Ozark to Airport Road, as well as on Bryan to Highway 17. Some optional locations also may be identified. The discussions came at the council’s Monday night meeting.
Under a separate program, the city will examine creating sidewalks on Oak Hill Drive to Forrest Drive.
If approved, work would be done in the spring 2014.
In other matters, members:
—Heard that the city may gain additional funding under a program that allows housing to be renovated.
—Gave the go-ahead to Randy Kell Excavating of Raymondville to begin work to create an entrance on North U.S .63 into the city’s new northeast industrial park.
—Learned the city’s electric department is moving its transformer inventory to its new location on Oak Hill Drive. That will free up space as the city constructs a new building west of its maintenance building on West Highway 17.
