Evelyn Godfrey

Evelyn Godfrey, 83, died Wednesday Sept. 26, 2012, in Houston.

She was born July 25, 1929, in Butterfield, daughter of Cecil and Delphia Poole Garrett. She and Lyle Godfrey were married Sept. 27, 1947, in Woodland, Wash.

She attended high school in Woodland, Wash.

She was baptized in July 1950 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and for more than 62 years helped many people, including their five children, to come to know her God, Jehovah.

She and her husband moved to the Ozarks in 1977. She loved homemaking, sewing, music and singing. She sang at many weddings through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Lyle; and a brother, Clarence Garrett.

Survivors include five children, Bruce Godfrey of Manhattan, Kan., Shirley Edelman of Beloit, Kan., Ruth Lee of Castro Valley, Calif., Alice Boyd of Houston and Sarah Young of Oakland, Calif.; 15 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Garrett of Forrest Grove, Ore., and Earl Garrett of Woodland, Wash.; and a sister, Norma Brunson of Woodland, Wash.

Memorial services were Sunday, Sept. 30, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Licking. The body was cremated under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
