Funding changes would affect Texas County school districts under a proposal, according to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The Houston School District will host a regional meeting of the Missouri School Boards’ Association on Nov. 1.

Tax credit reform is the topic of the 7:15 p.m. meeting at Houston Elementary School.

The association said tax credit spending is out of control in Missouri, crowding out revenue that otherwise would be available to K-12 education and other purposes. Reasonable limits on tax credit spending would provide more state revenue without a tax increase, it said.

School board members and administrators will learn more about the issue and discuss ways they can influence efforts to reform tax credits in the state during the regional meetings. Tax credit reform will be a major legislative priority for the Missouri School Boards’ Association during the 2013 legislative session.
