Marie M. Murfin, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at her home in Summersville.
She was born July 20, 1923, near Hartshorn, daughter of Charles Edward and Margaret Cloninger Murfin. She and Clarence C. Michel were married May 16, 1946, in West Plains. He died Feb. 14, 1987.
She graduated from Summersville High School in 1941. She obtained a teaching certificate and taught at various rural schools, including Leidy, Round Valley and Hartshorn.
She began working at Angelica Uniform Company in 1949 and except for a few years in the 1960s, worked there until her retirement in 1993.
She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed playing cards. She also made many quilts as long as her health permitted.
She and her husband lived on a farm and milked cows the early years of their marriage.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Anna Roberts and Ruth Roberts; two brothers, Elmer Murfin and Charley Murfin; and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include two children, Shirley Hanmore and Sharon Vaughn; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; a brother, Clarence Murfin; and many other relatives and friends.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Glenn Green officiating. Burial will be in Summersville City Cemetery.
