4-H is partnering with the Missouri Department of Conservation to offer hunter education and 4-H Shooting Sports safety in the same class.

The organization’s shooting programs include archery, rifle, pistol and shotgun.

The classes are 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Howell County Extension office in West Plains.

Registration is required with both groups: Missouri Department of Conservation ( and University Extension at 417-256-2391.

4-H Shooting Sports is open to youths ages 8 and up once they become members of the organization. The Missouri hunter education course is recommended for those 14 years of age and order who have good reading and comprehensive skills and who have some firearm and hunting knowledge or experience. However, students 11 or older may be tested or certified.
