The City of Houston appears poised to complete several sewer system improvements by the end of the month, members of the Houston City Council heard on Monday.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources said it is ready to close out grant and loan monies extended to the city as part of a massive effort that included construction of a new wastewater sewer plant, new and upgraded sewer lift station systems and line improvements. A chunk of the financing came from federal stimulus money.
City Administrator Larry Sutton gave these updates:
—A contractor is almost done with a new Hamrick Avenue lift station.
—Some testing of systems is planned.
—An Indian Creek sewer lift station upgrade is completed.
The contractor on the project is Rich Hill of Nixa.
In other matters, members:
—Heard an update from Elaine Campbell, development director, on several grant initiatives and recent wins in the state’s community betterment contest.
—Heard an update on the city’s 2013 budget, which will be adopted Dec. 17.
—Approved submission of a grant to operate the city’s transit system. It is not know whether the city will receive a new bus as part of the process this year.
—Discussed a possible land acquisition during a closed session.
