The driver of a vehicle that lawmen say caused an accident Wednesday with a Head Start bus has been arrested on drug charges.
Jenifer L. Drexler, 37, of Birch Tree, is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Texas County Jail and released.
Three children escaped injuries when the Head Start bus was struck by a pickup on Highway K north of Summersville.
Authorities said a northbound 1998 Dodge truck driven by Drexler crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2003 Chevrolet bus operated by Christina D. Odom, 41, of Mountain View.
Odom, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken with moderate injuries to Texas County Memorial Hospital. Troopers said three children — all age 3 — escaped injury. They were Tyler W. Howell, Hartshorn; Cameron A. Rodgers, Hartshorn; and Grace E. Williams, 3, Summersville. Another person on the bus, Penny S. Ferguson, 48, of Eminence, also was not hurt.
Drexler, whose vehicle was totaled and was not wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
Sgt. George Falterman and Trp. R.M. Grennan investigated. The Summersville Fire Department also responded.
