Houston police handled several investigations during the last week.

A 19-year-old Waynesville man and an 18-year-old girl from San Antonio, Texas, received citations from the Houston Police Department following an incident Nov. 4 in downtown Houston.

An officer was dispatched at about 10 p.m. to the Lone Star Plaza regarding a report of a male individual driving a silver Pontiac Grand Prix who was attempting to pick a fight with a group of people.

Upon arrival, the officer observed a group of people yelling and pointing at a car matching the description, and pulled the vehicle over after it turned from First Street onto Steffens Street.

After making contact with the driver and a female passenger, the officer smelled alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests. As a result, the driver – Wesley Powell of Waynesville – was cited for driving while intoxicated, and passenger Katherine T. Bowman of San Antonio was ticketed for minor in possession of alcohol by consumption.

While the officer was investigating, a man approached who had visible injuries to his mouth and head. The man stated that while he was sitting in his car in the parking lot at the Plaza, Powell had reached in and punched him several times. Powell was subsequently cited for third-degree assault.
