Bobbie “Bob” Lindsey, 91, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.
He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Corning, Ark., son of S.P. and Anna A. He and Daisy Scott Gearing were married Jan. 12, 1947.
He accepted Christ as a youth at the First Christian Church in Corning, Ark., his boyhood church. He was baptized and remained faithful as a lifelong believer.
He moved with his family to Cabool in June 1934. He was a member of Cabool High School’s first football team in 1938 and graduated in 1940. He attended Central College in Fayette and Southwest Missouri State. He graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
He enlisted in the Army while a student at Southwest Missouri State shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served in North Africa and Italy with the combat engineers of the 6th Corps under General Mark Clark.
Following World War II, he returned home and opened a photography studio. In 1946, he joined his dad, brother and sister at Cabool State Bank. He took a leave of absence from the bank in 1951 and moved just outside the city limits on 109 acres to raise broilers –– 25,000 at a time –– with his wife, Daisy, and their children.
In 1956, he returned full time to the bank and succeeded his father as president. The Lindsey family sold their controlling interest in the bank on Oct. 30, 1979. He continued with the bank as an investment officer and director.
He was a member of the Cabool Christian Church and served in many ways, including the Cabool School Board, chairman of the Texas County Savings Bond, church board, Cabool Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, South Missouri Christian Men’s Evangelistic Association, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, Parents as Teachers, church elder for 39 years, Rock Garden Christian Service Camp trustee, Kiwanis, Ozarks Development Corp. and state and area bankers associations.
He enjoyed family vacations, fishing, boating and flying. He and his wife purchased a single-engine aircraft and flew all over the country, including many trips to southern Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Jordan Lindsey; two sisters, Mary E. and Loraine F. Lindsey; and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Daisy; four children, Mary Ellen Gifford, Roger Lindsey, Becky Taff and Martha Grose; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Services were Monday, Dec. 10, at Cabool Christian Church with Bro. Bob Martin and Grady O’Dell officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home.
