The Houston Police Department reported counterfeit money was passed last week at a Houston convenience store.

According to a written report, the manager of Casey’s General Store on South Sam Houston Blvd. contacted police shortly after noon Dec. 26 and stated that an unknown suspect had passed $220 in counterfeit $20 bills.

Several of the phony bills shared the same serial numbers, and none bore an official watermark.

HPD Chief Jim McNiell said the suspect is believed to be a male who has also passed fake money in other local communities, and that authorities in Salem are helping to identify him. McNiell said the incident appears to have no connection to other cases involving counterfeit money that took place earlier in 2012.

“We think it’s unrelated,” he said.

In other police business, Seth M. Bryson, 21, of 17678 Brushy Creek Road in Houston, was arrested for having an active parole warrant for absconding. An officer who was aware of the warrant made the arrest after seeing Bryson walking along Highway 17.
