Many written reports submitted last week by Texas County Sheriff’s Department officers documented investigations of theft and burglary, several in the Licking area.
The following are summaries of some of those reports, and others:
Dec. 12
––A deputy responded to a report of a theft at a Highway 137 property at Licking. An 83-year-old woman who lives there told the officer she had witnessed two men rolling a piece of a power pole under a fence and then load it into the back of a pickup. The woman’s husband explained that when the electric company sets poles in the ground, it is normal procedure to leave pieces that have been cut off as excess for the landowner to do with as they wish.
The woman stated that there were about 10 such pieces in the truck bed. She gave the license number of the truck to the officer, and it was registered to a Jeep owned by a Licking couple.
Investigation of the matter continues.
Dec. 13
––A 49-year-old Licking woman called to report that her 24-year-old son had been stealing medication from her and other members of the family.
An officer made contact with the son, who admitted it. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges.
Dec. 14
––A man called at about 10 p.m. to report a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of his Highway MM residence. An investigating officer determined that the vehicle belonged to a neighbor and had a blown tire.
––An officer reported that on Nov. 29 he had investigated a burglary at a Highway MM residence at Mountain Grove.
The officer stated that a 67-year-old man who lives there said that numerous valuable items had been swiped, with a total value of $8,150. The man stated that stolen goods included a jewelry box containing $4,000 worth of jewelry and precious metals, a complete bedroom set valued at $1,000, a set of white china valued at $1,000, and a silverware set estimated at $500.
The man showed the officer several outbuildings where some of the items had been located. The lawmen observed that the back door to the home appeared to have been tampered with.
––An officer reported that on Dec. 9 he had investigated a report by an 18-year-old Licking woman that numerous items with a total value of $844 had been stolen from her Ware Road residence.
The woman and her husband told the officer they had been in the process of moving in from an adjacent residence, and had gone to the former home and found much of their belongings either thrown around or missing.
––An officer reported that on Dec. 12 he had investigated a reported burglary at a U.S. 63 residence at Licking.
A 60-year-old man who lives there told the officer that numerous items with a total value of $2,000 had been swiped, including a two guns worth $1,050, an archery bow, $300; and a television estimated at $300.
There are no suspects.
