Two persons were injured Tuesday night in a crash in Douglas County.

A Cabool girl was seriously injured Tuesday night in a crash in Douglas County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Cpl. B.L. Thompson said a northbound 2003 Dodge Durango driven by Robert D. Vernon, 19, of Mountain Grove, swerved to miss a deer in the roadway, travelled off the left side of Highway 95, came back across and ran off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree and a fence.

A passenger, Ashley N. Elliott, was flown by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Vernon was taken with moderate injuries by ambulance to Mercy Hospital.

Thompson said neither was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was totaled about one-half mile north of Gentryville.
