Gordon Gene “Jake” Montgomery, 79, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in Springfield.
He was born March 5, 1933, in New Linn Creek, son of Norris and Nelle Bunch Montgomery.
He grew up in the Lebanon area and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1951.He joined the Air Force on Feb. 29, 1952, and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 28, 1956.
He married Norma Humphries in 1952 and later married Patty Hager. Both preceded him in death. In 1995, he married Betty Nell Jeffery Castleman.
He and his wife, Betty, lived in Springfield until they moved to Houston in 1966. He worked as a salesman in automotive parts for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jeffery Montgomery of Houston; a daughter, Belinda Lomax of Tulsa, Okla.; a granddaughter; two sisters, Carol Bursey Johnson of Lebanon and Pamela Tonjes of Tyler, Texas; a brother, James Montgomery of Springfield; five stepchildren, Scott Gettys, Beverley Hurd, Doug Castleman, Kay Wegleitner and Troy Castleman; 10 step-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in Ozark Cemetery with Pastor Don Crockett officiating. A viewing is 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Evans Funeral Home.
