Opal Lee

Opal Ruth Lee, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Salem.

She was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Hartshorn, daughter of Arthur Coleman and Alice Mae Prince Dewitt. She and Leon Emerson Lee were married May 20, 1943, in Houston.

She was a member of Eunice Baptist Church and attended as long as her health permitted.

She enjoyed listening to her husband, Leon, play the guitar, spending time with her family, playing dice and card games, camping and traveling.

She enjoyed living in the county and loved her dog, “Peaches.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; four children, Betty Jane, Freddie Dean and Bobby Lee; 13 siblings; and her parents.

Survivors include 10 children Carol Ann Roe of Fitch, Texas, Barbara Ann Ford and David Glen Lee of Salem, Danny Lee and Donna Ruth Heavin of Mountain View, Patsy Louise Hebert of Summersville, Leroy Elvis Lee of Ottawa, Kansas, Karen Sue Shroup of Licking and Theresa Lynn Villarreal and Brandon Lee of Houston; 43 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were Saturday, Jan. 12, at Eunice Baptist Church with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.
