The Houston Tigers have already matched their win total from all of last season.
Devin Coulter led three players in double figures with 21 points as the Tigers held off Summersville 51-45 on the road Thursday night.
Houston’s fourth victory of the season matched the mark from last year when HHS was 4-19 under Tom Brown. This year’s Tigers improved to 4-7 under Richard Rose.
Weston Walker had 12 points and Aaron Cantrell added 11 for Houston, which had a 23-18 halftime advantage. The Tigers’ advantage was two with just under two minutes left.
“They had the momentum and the crowd,” Rose said. “I was impressed with how we handled ourselves in the last minute of the game. It would have been very easy for us to crumble, but we held our composure.”
Rose said his team still struggles with bad habits to break as the Tigers compete in their first conference game of the season Friday at Ava.
“We didn’t play very smart or very hard for the majority of the first three quarters,” he said. “In stretches, we played hard, but we took a lot of possessions off which hurt us big time.”
