Members of the Texas County Memorial Hospital board of trustees reorganized Tuesday following a recent election and heard updates on physician recruitment and finances.

New volunteer opportunities available at hospital

Texas County Memorial Hospital is seeking additional volunteers to serve as it moves into new construction this year.

“As the hospital grows, we are growing our volunteer base,” said Roma Hollenbeck, president of the TCMH Auxiliary.

The auxiliary and TCMH Youth Ambassadors are two volunteer services that assist with patients, family members and visitors.

“We need volunteers that will read to patients, sit and talk with patients, or assist patients with activities like personal care or playing a game,” Hollenbeck said. “We also have a need to help patients and their family members as they are discharged from the hospital, and professional services such as assisting with departmental phones and staffing informational desks are also in demand.”

According to Hollenbeck, the TCMH Youth Ambassadors provide a lot of one-on-one patient care in the evenings and after school, but additional assistance is needed with patients and the public during working hours.

“I hope that some able-bodied, retired men and women that have free time during the day will be able to join our volunteer ranks for a few hours each month,” Hollenbeck said.

Additional information about volunteering is available by contacting TCMH administration at 417-967-1236 or administration@tcmh.org.
