A prescribed burn workshop is planned by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a burn workshop this month for area landowners.

Prescribed burning is used to improve habitat for quail and other small game species, as well as controlling weeds, brush and will help insure diversity of plants in the wildlife food chain. It is also an important tool used in maintaining and improving native grasses, organizers said.

The conservation department said the workshop’s purpose is to help landowners evaluate when the best conditions exist and how to use them in a safe manner to achieve the desired results.

The meeting is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the forestry building on North U.S. 63 next to the Missouri Department of Transportation building. It is limited to 25 participants.
