There will be a cleanup in northwest Texas County the first weekend in March.

Old tires, appliances, furniture and other junk may be dropped off Saturday, March 2, at the fire stations in Roby, Success and Evening Shade. There will also be a designated area marked by signs in Plato.

No household hazardous waste –– oil, antifreeze, paint, chemicals and pesticides –– will be accepted at any of the locations. A drop-off for those materials will be in the spring.

Volunteers are needed to assist the elderly as well as walk community and U.S. Forest Service roads to clean up trash and dumpsites. To volunteer or request assistance hauling trash, call Keith Follin (417-967-6536), Annette Monroe (417-458-4968) or Tom Steinbach (417-458-4860). Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the Roby Fire Department and should wear the appropriate footwear. Gloves, safety vests and bags will be provided.

The cleanup is sponsored by the Roby Fire Department, Kuhn’s Sanitation Service, South Central Solid Waste Management District, Northwest Texas County Lions Club and the Big Piney River Stream Team Watershed Association.

In case of inclement weather, the cleanup will be March 16. For more information, email petermaki@totorcd.org.
