Sales tax revenue reported in Houston was up during the first distribution of 2013.

Sales tax revenue in the City of Houston increased by about 9 percent from a year ago in the latest monthly distribution, the Missouri Department of Revenue reports.

The tally from a one-cent sales tax was $55,501, which is an increase of about $4,434 from the same period a year ago.

City merchants also collect two quarter-cent sales taxes for improvements to sidewalks, roads and utilities. Each contributed about $13,389, an increase of $1,174 from a year ago on both.

A quarter-cent sales tax for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled $6,694.
