The West Plains Brewfest will benefit a scholarship. A Texas County business is among those participating.

West Plains BrewFest, featuring locally available craft beers, is 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Magnolia Room at the West Plains Civic Center.

The event is sponsored by the West Plains Council on the Arts, Great Rivers Distributing, Grellner Sales and Services, and Piney River Brewing. Along with samples of more than 40 craft beers and locally prepared hors d’oeuvres, the first 300 attendees will receive a souvenir tasting glass.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the West Plains Council on the Arts’ Gatewood Family Scholarship, which will be awarded to an area graduating high school senior planning to major in music and/or art education.

Participating breweries are Mother’s Brewing and Springfield Brewing of Springfield, Public House Brewery of Rolla, Rock Bridge Brewing of Columbia and Piney River Brewing of Bucyrus. Specially selected craft beers of distributors Great Rivers Distributing and Grellner Sales will also be featured.

“Piney River is very excited to participate in a beer festival to support a great cause in our own back yard,” says owner Joleen Senter Durham. “We are going to have some ‘special’ beers to pour as well as our flagship beers. We are really looking forward to this.”
