Angels Home Center, a nonprofit organization at 9411 Peace Chapel Road in Plato (off of Highway M) is celebrating 10 years of operation. It is operated solely by volunteers whose mission is to give help and hope to those in despair after having a home fire or natural disaster.
To celebrate at the spring opening on Saturday, March 16, Ernest Mesa and Earlin Keith Roberts (Upton township board member candidates) are sponsoring a community barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to visit the facility, enjoy a free lunch and meet the volunteers and sponsors who make Angels Home possible.
It has helped more than 200 families start over, both monetarily and with donated items from the community. “There is no limit to what these families may take from the center, because in a fire, you lose everything,” a volunteer said. “The volunteers feel they receive more joy out of giving than the families do in receiving. It’s hard to tell through the tears and hugs.”
Angels Home is not government controlled or owned. It is registered with the state as a nonprofit, so people may write off donations.
“When we have a need, miracles happen, it is amazing,” a volunteer said. “John Kosmicke has been a blessing to Angels Home. He has given the land, the building and well to use. By his actions, the organization was able to give 95 percent of all money donated back to the fire victims. This is the reason for Angels Home Center location.”
Anyone may obtain items for a small donation when it is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays starting March 21.
