An organization that assists children in the region is holding an event May 29 in Houston.

A volunteer recruitment event for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Children in Texas County has been rescheduled.

It will be held 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, at the Houston Lions Club Den on North U.S. 63. A light dinner with refreshments will be served.

It takes no special education to become a volunteer. They are appointed by a judge and empowered to speak for the safety and well-being of abused and neglected children.

After training and case research, the typical person will spend about 10 hours per month. The organization is currently serving 17 children who are in foster care after being removed from their homes.
