Dallas Albert Ray, 91, died Thursday, March 14, 2013.

He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Wappapello, son of Frank Newton Ray and Flora Caldwell Ray. He and Almedia Bertha Sykes Ray were married Feb. 8, 1946.

He was a tool and die machinist at United Shoe Machinery for almost 30 years in St. Louis. After retirement, he and wife, Bertha, moved to Summersville.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing the guitar, harmonica and singing as a member of The Assembly of God Church in Summersville. He also enjoyed children, laughter, country music, hunting, dogs, cars, laughing and telling stories.

He was a lifetime member of the DAV and served in the Army from 1942-’43. He was honorable discharged after he was injured.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; his parents; a daughter, Marcella; a sister, Marie; a brother, Curtis; and a grandson Scotty Ray.

Survivors include a sister, Mildred Pittman; two sons, Ronnie Ray of Lemay and Frank Ray of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Services were Monday, March 18, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.
