Sales tax revenue reported in Texas County in 2014 hit a new benchmark: More than million. Texas County has collected a sales tax since the early 1980s.

Houston’s sales tax monies was up about 2 percent from the same period a year ago, the Missouri Department of Revenue announced.

The tally from the latest monthly distribution from a one-cent sales tax was $55,730, a jump of about $1,224 from the same monthly period a year ago. For the first two months of the year, $111,231 has been collected by retailers. That’s up $5,658 from last year.

The city also collects two quarter-cent sales taxes that totaled about $13,243 each. An eighth-cent tax for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled $6,621.

The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
