Undivided Hearts 5K

A local youth ministry is hosting its second annual 5K this morning in Houston

Undivided Hearts will hold a 5K walk/run and block party at the organization’s building at 511 First Street.

The 5K will begin at 10 a.m. from the corner of First and Chestnut streets and wind through town. A kids’ race will be held at 9:20 a.m. The results and awards will be announced at 11:15 a.m.

The registration fee is $25 per participant or $20 for kids. Forms must be submitted by April 6 to receive a T-shirt. Race day registration will be from 8:30-9:45 a.m. the day of the race, but does not include a shirt.

Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female runners as well as the top runner in each age category: 10-and-under; 11-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-and-over.

There will be a block party following the race with food, baked items, music and a bounce house. A silent auction with more than 80 items will be held throughout the day and conclude at 1 p.m.

“Last year’s turn out was phenomenal,” said Tanya Pacheco, youth leader at Faith Fellowship and part of Undivided Hearts leadership team. “It is our hope that success will help to generate even more participation in this year’s event. Whether you are a competitive runner, a novice, a walker, or you just want to come hang out at the block party, there is something for everyone, and the proceeds are going to such a great cause – our building project.

“We are beyond grateful for the community’s unprecedented support of what God is doing through in our community.”

Undivided Hearts formed in 2011 under the leadership of multiple youth leaders from area churches and began hosting weekly youth worship services in November. The group hosted three Christian concerts in 2012 and a pair of 5Ks, including one night run.
