Thelma Marie Pittman, 87, died Friday, April 26, 2013, in Mountain View.
She was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Round Springs, daughter of James Oscar and Gladys Steelman Sykes. She and William “Bill” Roy Pittman were married Jan. 18, 1947, in St. Louis.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Summersville for many years.
She received a degree from the Teachers College in Cape Girardeau. She taught at Round Springs and Round Valley grade schools. She worked at Sunshine Bakery in St. Louis and later Young’s Café in Summersville.
She loved watching Wheel of Fortune with her sister-in-law, Evelyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Gladys Sykes; her husband, Bill; four sisters, Ethel, Ileda, Alta Hogan and Bertha Ray; two brothers, Thurman Sykes and Raymond Sykes; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara of House Springs; two sons, Rick Pittman of Drasco, Ark., and Michael Pittman of Mountain View; a brother, Leroy Sykes of Hillsboro; four sisters, Myrtle Young and Evelyn Alton of Summersville, Juanita Orchard of Hillsboro and Mildred Pyatt of Salem; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.
Services were Tuesday, April 30, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Lankford officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
