Houston Schools approved a contract with CTS Group during Tuesday night’s monthly board meeting for improvements inside Hiett Gymnasium.
The work will include installation of four 11-ton heating and cooling units as well as temperature controls and lighting upgrades –– ones that are brighter and strike quicker –– inside the gym. The project, which also includes installation of security doors in the elementary and high school for deliveries, is part of the $4 million bond approved in April by voters. The total cost is $499,542.
Superintendent Scott Dill said the installation will completed by Aug. 9.
Also at the meeting, board members:
––Authorized a resolution rescinding the authorization made by the board on July 10 to establish and enter into an escrow agreement to defease $105,000 of principal maturing on March 1, 2015, and $75,000 of principal maturing on March 1, 2016, of the general obligation bonds series 2005.
––Adopted a resolution directing the issuance and delivery of $4 million in general obligation bonds, series 2013.
––Declared the building trades house, located at 509 Primrose, as surplus property. It will be sold at the June 11 board meeting with a minimum bid of $221,000. Open houses and bid forms will be available June 1-2 and 8-9.
––Recognized the eighth-grade girls’ track team, which won the South Central Association championship. The girls led the board in the pledge of allegiance.
Closed minutes from the meeting will be released Friday by the district.
