Plato sophomore Lexi McNiel competes in Saturday’s track and field state championships in Jefferson City. McNiel earned a pair of top-five finishes in the 3200 and 1600.

A sophomore from Plato High School earned a pair of top-five finishes over the weekend against the top track athletes from across the state.

Lexi McNiel finished fourth in the 3200 meters and fifth in the 1600 meters while competing in the Class 1 and 2 state championships in Jefferson City.

McNiel, the reigning cross country state champion, ran the 3200 in 11:51.29. She finished the 1600 in 5:25.29.

As a freshman, McNiel finished fourth in the 3200 and seventh in the 1600.
