An Army soldier who died recently in Kuwait and has ties to Texas County will be buried this weekend in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Fort Leonard Wood.
Pfc. Charles P. McClure, 21, of New Bloomfield died May 2 in Camp Buehring, Kuwait, of injuries from a vehicle accident, according to the Department of Defense. Spc. Trinidad Santiago Jr., 25, of San Diego was also killed in the accident. The two were honored Thursday at a memorial service in Fort Carson, Colo., where they were based.
McClure was assigned to 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson. He joined the Army in 2011 and deployed to Kuwait in February.
Funeral services are Saturday at the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville, with a military burial following at Fort Leonard Wood.
According to his obituary from Memorial Chapels, McClure is survived by his mother, Karrie Gladden Sandfort of Columbia; his father, Andy McClure of Cabool; siblings Kayce McClure of New Bloomfield, Kayla McClure of Little Rock, Ark.; Alton McClure of Columbia; and Karissa Sandfort of Columbia; grandparents Garry and Karen Williams of Plato, Jerry Gladden of New Bloomfield and Jim and Doris McClure of Lynchburg.
