A Relay for Life event is June 8 in Houston.

Plans were announced this week for Texas County Relay for Life, an event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society.

The affair, which has a fund-raising goal of $38,000, runs from noon to midnight Saturday, June 8, at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on North U.S. 63. This year’s theme is “Super Heros — Be a Hero’s Hero.”

Other related activities also were announced:

•A Relay for Life survivor and caregiver dinner is planned for Thursday, May 30, at First Christian Church, Houston. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner program starting at 6. Survivors and caregivers are invited. Persons planning to attend should make a reservation by emailing courtney.furgerson@cancer.org or calling 417-447-1476. Good has been donated by Miller’s Grill, KFC and Town and Country Supermarket.

•A Relay for Life nine-pin no tap bowling tournament is 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Houston Bowl. The cost is $20 per person with four-six people per team.
