Bob’s Barber Shop is a relatively new business in Houston, being just a year old. The owner, however, is not new to cutting hair.
Bobby Amburn, 45, accumulated more than two decades’ experience working for the military. When he saw an opportunity to start his own business last year, he jumped at it.
“I’ve always wanted to open shop here in my hometown,” Amburn said.
Amburn is currently remodeling his shop to more closely resemble the original aesthetic of the building, which was built in the first half of the 20th century. He plans to restore the original ceiling and install some old-fashioned ceiling fans, as well as other period-accurate pieces.
When asked about attracting customers, he said, “If your hair isn’t becoming to you, you should be coming to me.”
You can find Amburn, along with his shop’s mascot, Duchess, a friendly little lapdog, at 112 Grand Ave. in downtown Houston.
