Houston Superintendent Scott Dill said he anticipates a recommendation will be made at next week’s board meeting to hire a new boys’ basketball coach.

Dill has been working alongside HHS Principal Charlie Malam and Athletic Director Brent Kell to hire a replacement for Richard Rose, who resigned in April after one season at HHS. Malam said 12 candidates applied and five were interviewed.

Rose said “personal circumstances” led to his departure. The Tigers went 6-19 –– more than both of their previous two seasons –– under Rose. He later accepted a coaching job at Richland High School.

Rose’s replacement will be the program’s seventh coach in eight seasons.
