A man charged in the 2009 death of a Houston teenager received probation last Tuesday to a reduced count of allowing a minor to drink intoxicants.
Circuit Judge Bill Hickle sentenced Benjamin J. Crawford to a suspended 60-day jail sentence and two years of probation after a guilty plea. He also is to perform 100 hours of community service. Crawford earlier faced a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Jury selection began Monday in the case.
Crawford was charged in the death of David Foster, 17, who was killed in a car crash east of Houston.
The charges stem from allegations that alcohol was consumed at the Crawford residence in Houston that contributed to the crash, according to court documents.
Charges against a second person were dropped in 2010 after a judge found no probable cause.
