Ozark Mountain Amateur Radio Club will showcase its emergency capabilities Saturday and Sunday in front of Pizza Express on South Sam Houston Blvd. in Houston.
Demonstration of setting up emergency stations will begin at 10 a.m. Members will go on air at 1 p.m.
Organizers said the field day is a serious test of skill, but also a contest for fun that helps prepare for emergency operations. It is the largest ham radio activity of the year. The connection becomes critical when other systems don’t work, such as telephones, the Internet or other infrastructure.
The Amateur Radio Relay League sponsors the annual exercise with participation throughout the nation and possibilities of worldwide contact.
The public and any local agency are invited to participate.
