The 62nd annual Raymondville Picnic is this week.

The 62nd annual Raymondville Picnic in under way through Saturday at the Raymondville Community Fairgrounds.

The annual event offers a wide variety of family activities, including updated carnival rides by Giles Entertainment. Advanced carnival ride tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the village office or during the picnic for $15. All carnival rides are from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Free live entertainment will be provided by local bands:  South 63 on Friday and Country Survival on Saturday. The Silver Nickle Shooters will give horseback shooting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday. The Licking Future Farmers of America will sponsor the annual Bull Drop contest. The picnic/fairgrounds will have new picnic tables made by the Licking FFA, and there will be a new Parent-Teacher Organization building.

Several community service and volunteer organizations are having game and food booths. Among them are the Blue Heaven Club, which will raffle its annual hand crafted cedar hope chest filled with a variety of household items including a handmade quilt, afghan and banner donated by club members.

Raffle tickets will be available at their booth with the drawing for the hope chest planned for Saturday. In addition, the Parent-Teacher Organization will sell fried Oreo cookies snacks as well as their traditional funnel cakes and more. Houston Boy Scouts Troop 99 will offer popcorn. The village is sponsoring a “50-50” raffle with the drawing on Saturday night. In addition, several local vendors will offer goods and merchandise of local interest.

The Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring bingo, and a rifle raffle for a brand new .243-caliber “Savage” rifle, equipped with camouflaged scope, which will be awarded Saturday. The fire department will also have a booth to collect annual fire protection dues. All proceeds will help support the department’s EMS/First Responder and fire protection services. Fire department answers both Raymondville and neighboring requests for aid.
