Sales tax revenue was down in the last monthly distribution for the City of Houston, the Missouri Department of Revenue reports. 

Revenue from four sales taxes in the City of Houston dropped about 4 percent from the same time a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Merchants collected $57,231 from a one-cent sales tax, which was down about $2,313 from the same period a year ago. For the year, collections stand at $276,223, which is up $5,351 from the first five months of 2012.

Retailers also collect two, quarter-cent sales taxes. Each totaled about $13,904, which was down about $659 each.

The tally from an eighth-cent sales tax was $6,952. It is used for debt repayment on a fire truck.
